Is DACA in jeopardy? Maybe.

The current administration has kept its hands off the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program thus far, but that could change in a heartbeat.

As recently reported, the Attorneys General of several states are proposing new lawsuits to challenge the legality of DACA which was created by an Obama administration executive action. An excellent article on the subject can be found here.

The DACA program benefits persons who entered the United States as children and have meet other fairly stringent requirements. There are approximately 780,000 people who are protected by DACA. If DACA is repealed, there will be 780,000 easy targets for deportation because the beneficiaries voluntarily presented themselves and keep their addresses on record with USCIS.

DACA recipients have all met certain educational requirements and are authorized to work. They have been raised in the United States, educated in the United States, and presently permeate every tier of the workforce from labor to professional. They also include numerous entrepreneurs.

DACA recipients should begin exploring other options for remaining in the United States immediately. Employers of DACA recipients should also begin exploring options for their key employees to prevent a disaster if the program is ended or suspended.
