Worries about deportation common among DACA recipients

The future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program has been up in the air for some time now. So, it is understandable that participants in the program would have concerns about their future. One thing that a recent study points to as being a regular source of worry among DACA participants is the possibility of future deportation.

In the study, by the Center for American Progress, over 1,000 participants in this program were surveyed about how often they thought about deportation. Nearly a third of them live in California.

Over half of the participants (55 percent) reported thinking at least once a day about the possibility of being deported. Meanwhile, nearly two-thirds of the participants (64 percent) said that they thought about the possibility of a relative being deported at least once a day.

The survey indicated that not thinking about deportation at all was much rarer. Just a little over one in ten of the respondents said this was the case when it comes to thinking about being deported. The numbers were similar when it comes to thinking about the deportation of a family member.

So, deportation worries may be dominating the thoughts of many DACA recipients these days. When worried about immigration matters, it is important for a person to understand what his or her situation actually is and what options truly are available, rather than just relying on assumptions or rumors. This can help a person avoid missing opportunities and making mistakes that could compromise his or her overall immigration goals.

So, DACA participants may find it helpful to discuss worries they have with a skilled immigration attorney.
